The crack of a whip sounded across the sky, echoing within the canyons and building up into a deafening boom. It was closely followed by sharp, harsh flashes of light that illuminated the rocky abyss. The storm, as usual, showed no signs of relenting. This was it's haven, it's place to rage as furiously as Mother Nature desired. Lightning craved into stone when it hit, sizzling and leaving the scent of burnt material behind. The rain quickly washed it away.
Wind carried the drops so that they slapped against anything in their way. When it swept through the canyons the water lashed at skin and could push a body back. It was to Kida's great pleasure that the wind was not being so rough this night.
She was reveling in the feel of being drowned on land, liquid life falling down hard around her. Kida had been out in the canyons for several hours training her body and her mind, she had found the perfect spot to improve like she had never dreamed. Even as fatigue was fighting to nest in all of her muscles, she was pushing against it. Kida loved feeling the strain, loved pushing herself to her limits and driving through until she'd made an incredible move.
Right now it was enough just making herself stand still. This place was thriving with energy, it was almost tangible in the air as if you could reach out and grab it. It was making her wired. Even after exercise after exercise Kida was ready for more lightning bolts. Manipulating water was much easier when there was a surplus pulsing on every surface. Kida was soaked to the bone, but that only made it better.
Steady, instead of acting on her instincts to run, to fight, to move, to do anything with this humming inside her, Kida stood as still as she possible could. She didn't know what she was waiting for and it didn't really matter because truly she was waiting for nothing. Forcing herself to stand still was just another kind of test of her limits. Five minutes. Ten minutes. Twenty minutes...
It was dragging on. Inspiration hit to do a training method she had never tried before, but one she had always remembered witnessing with fondness. For those who could preform water play, were water bender or had hydrokinsis, whatever one chose to call it, a water dance was one of the best ways to feel alive. So she had been told.
With only the music in her head to guid her, Kida began to move gracefully, as fluid as the water around her. Slowly at first, sliding muscles over bone, that was the way. All movements were controlled and perfect. As lightning flashed and thunder crashed harder and more frequently Kida picked up the pace, moving faster and faster and building into a climax. It was another test, every slight move a demand on the body after her rigorous training. Every ounce of grace, a strain. And truly Kida had never felt more alive in her life. Her senses felt like they were tingling on the surface of her skin, hovering above her. Why had she never come here before?
Once again, her movements became slow, unhurried as she glided to a stop. The thunder was but a whisper compared to her heart beat hammering in her ears. Kida left a satisfied sigh escape her moistened lips. She was running on a high that no drug would be able to reach. So much so that, despite the cloak of the storm and the rain, Kida felt a presence was near in the canyons. Not something she had been expecting by any means. Searching through the shadows, Kida's eyes tried to find whoever was out there. She had an eerie feeling they had been watching her.

Slowly taking one step after another Roy made his way through the stormy weather of the Umbra-Canyons. The rugged ground was slippery due to the rain and the wind could easily distract your movements, accompanied by lightnings and the roaring thunder. With his weapons strapped on his back and his cape wrapped around them and covering half of his face, he stopped in his motion and looked backwards.
He already reached quite a decent hight all on his own, but slowly he was getting the feeling that he shouldn't push his luck too far and climb even higher where the rocks couldn't protect him from the lightnings anymore. Getting hit by another wind blow he bended down slowly with the flow until he reached a safe stand again. One false movement can be fatal, Roy knew that, that's what made it so interesting.
The air he breathed was burning in his throat, he walked on and his hand grabbed onto a huge and sharp stone fragment to pull himself further. With his clothes drenched by the rain and his black, fingerless leather gloves sitting tight like a second skin he should actually be freezing his limbs off, but so far the adrenalin kept him warm.
A blinding light striking right into the rock face above him, followed by a deafening thunder and the sound of cracking stone, made Roy quickly pressing his body to the wall that was next to him. Surprisingly his reflexes where still as sharp as his mind and he looked upwards to spot anything that might fall down from the burned gap that split the stone. The raindrops whipping against his face and the wind blowing in his ears, Roy couldn't catch the sound or sight of any approaching boulders, which were always breaking the everlasting sounds of rain and wind. Feeling his heart racing he smiled upwards with his face bathing in the rain. Yes, he liked it.
With a stroke he put his soaking wet hair back in order again, before clinging to another rocky edge and pulled himself around the corner. Surviving his journey so far, now the moment arrived where he was wondering if he was still sane in his mind or not, when he spotted a figure literally dancing in the storm. It was quite a distance between them and the rain made it hard to see too. But because of him standing on a higher ground he had an excellent view on the person and whatever he or she was doing there, it looked fascinating and the silhouette that spun through the rain drops was already enough to catch Roys eyes.
This was no place for humans, Roy was only here because he is always tempted to put himself into life threatening dangers, no matter if he's doing it on purpose or not, the fact was that he always ends up in danger. But this time he was indeed knowing what he would get himself into when he decided to go to these mountains. So now Roy was eager to know what kind of other person might have had the same idea.
The person actually stopped whatever he was doing and Roy couldn't get the feeling that a pair of eyes were set on him. 'Here we go.' he thought as he pulled himself around the corner completely and jumped down a couple of small stairs until he reached the ground level where the person stood. Words weren't of any use in a weather like this, even though the wind wasn't that strong on this side of the mountain. So all he did while approaching the person was raising his right hand in a greeting manner.

Eyes narrowed, Kida fisted her hands, more than ready to destroy whoever it was if they thought she was any easy target out here. They would be sorely mistaken and quite literally. But the figure had a hand raised, the signal of the opposite of mal intent. Or at least that's how it would appear. Out here Kida wasn't about to assume anything. So, though she let her hands relax she was still alert to her surroundings and to....him?
Yeah, it looked like a him. It was rather the odd, the little shock of seeing another person after being out here for so long. It made Kida wonder what time it was, but she wasn't going to think of that now. Not with lightning and thunder barreling around her. When the man got close enough, Kida gave him a once over. He didn't look familiar. It seemed there was no shortage of new acquiantences in this area of the world.
"I didn't expect any company in a place like this." she said loud enough for him to hear, hopefully. Kida was drenched, probably looked something like a drowned rat. It was the first thought she'd bothered to give to her appearance in a while and it only reminded her that she had a bag around here somewhere. Probably just as soggy.

His eyes pinned to ground first, to avoid tripping all of the sudden, Roy didn't even notice how the stranger clenched his fists in a defensive manner. When looking up again he was finally close enough to notice the most unexpected. '..a girl?' Not that he thought that women weren't tough enough to climb a canyon like this, but Roy was just... surprised.
Not that it was just a girl, she was a stunning beauty on top of that, which made Roy wonder even more what she was doing here. But whatever it was, she was definitely as drenched in water like he was himself, which pointed out her graceful curved body.
After hearing her speak up Roy put the cape away from his mouth, smiling at her. "You take the words right out of my mouth." he replied and almost had to yell at her. This was definitely not a good place to make new friends at all, due to the weather conditions which made it hard to speak. "It's quite a surprise to run into somebody, a pleasant one on top of that. I'm Roy, may I ask your name?"

"Kida." she replied, while idly looking around for her bag. If it had fallen into the canyon while she wasn't paying attention she was going to be pissed. Thankfully, as soon as she thought of it, lightning assisted her in seeing exactly where she had left it. No harm done. Able to give her full attention to the new acquiantence, Kida studied his face. "This isn't exactly the best choice for a picnic spot." she gestured and then crossed her arms. "If you're not used to the storms or don't know the terrain that well it's not that safe."
A little voice in her head told her she was starting to sound like a hypocrite, considering this was her first trip here. Kida replied to the little voice with a swift mental kick. She had the upper hand in a storm after all. "Unless you're an adreniline addict." she shrugged. Touche inner mind. Just because she was on edge at the moment, Kida decided she wouldn't pry into the guy's life or his reasons for being here.
Normally she tried to have a healthy balance of both trust and suspicion when meeting new people, but in a setting like this Kida wasn't about to openly trust anybody. Her body language was firm and closed, and she wasn't about to apologize for it. "The Umbra-Canyons are a nice place for a storm if you enjoy one."

Roy nodded at her name. It has a nice ring to it, but how are you supposed to make some compliments incidentally in a storm like this where you have to yell every word? "Totally true, but right now I wish it would be." he replied to her. "Maybe we can look for cover in a gap that reaches into the mountain to get some cover from the storm."
He noticed how she was looking around, but for what? Her body language at least wasn't expecting him with open arms, maybe Roy has interrupted her at a wrong time? Or maybe shes just being careful? Probably Roy should be like that too, but she just wasn't looking like an evil chick that you shouldn't trust and his feelings hardly tricked him... was he himself looking that untrustworthy though?
He grinned at her comment and replied "Adrenalin addict has such a negative sound to it, don't you think?" He didn't even know if he was one, but he can't deny that he likes it. "Storms are nice, to a certain degree that is... I tend to forget that I also have to walk the whole way back again."
Waiting for a moment he tried to think about how far he should push his luck but then decided just to go for it. "I guess you enjoy the storm a lot, right? Or what else brings you up here?"

Kida blinked. Funny, though she used the term 'adrenaline addict' often, espeically for herself, she had always thought it sounded bad too. Being a total geek who was addicted to comics was enough, wasn't it? Then again any kind of addiction was supposedly 'bad'. "Training. As well as the adrenaline." Kida shouted back. Keeping her eye on him, she quickly went and picked up her bag.
Just how wet it was, she couldn't tell, but maybe, just maybe her earlier precautions had paid off and her things weren't ruined. At least she didn't have an mp3 to ruin at the moment. "I'm pretty sure there's a small break in the rock over here." She pointed, anticipating another flash of lightning to light their way. "A cave or a gap at the least."
She was pretty sure it had been that way, but to make sure she peered into the distance. During her time here in the canyon Kida had managed not to get turned around, so the break was there, just as she'd thought. Nice. She was getting better at that at least. "And you? Addict, recreation or training?"

Roy raised his eyebrows in a matter of surprise. It was good to know that he isn't the only one who is getting himself in danger just for the fun of it. Fun wasn't the right word for it, but he refused to use the word 'kick' even if its just in his thoughts. "Birds of a feather flock together, I guess." He let out shrugging.
He is not often using sayings like that, especially not such stupid ones like the one he just said, but it was the first thing that came out of his mouth. He really should think first before opening his mouth next time.
Carefully following Kida when she picked up her bag, after all he didn't want the distance to end their short talk, Roy eyed her from feet to head. He did notice that she still gave him that certain look.
Roy spotted the gap when he looked into the direction where she pointed at. It surely was big enough for both of them to get a cover and a nice place to chat. Then he turned around hearing her question. "I prefer to call it adventuring, but you can also name it addict if you want to." Then he nodded his head towards the gap. "Want to get in there for a break or did I interrupt your training? I don't know about you, but staying in the rain without doing anything can't be good for too long."

Kida couldn't help the laughter that escaped her throat. "Speak for yourself." Regardless she walked into the gap, making enough room for him to join her. The unexpected laughter had done the job of relaxing her. While, of course she was still geared up, she wasn't completely on the edge of a spontaneous burst of energy anymore. Kida gave him a more relaxed expression. Besides, it was raining beyond cats and dogs. If anything happened she could do more than defend herself, even in this gap.
"Adventuring always sounded kind of corny to me--no offense. But you're right, addict doesn't really do the job either." She dropped her bad to the ground with a mighty splat that made her cringe. That didn't sound good. Kida took the chance to try and fix her hair. It was beyond wet and sticking to her like molasses did to whatever it was touching. Kida attempted to comb her fingers through it so it wouldn't look too bad, she knew there was no point in trying to wring it out. At the very least she'd learned from her last experience of drenched white shirts, always wear a bra.
"You weren't really interrupting me. I was pretty much done, I guess. I've been here for most of the day." She had earned her dessert tonight, thank you very much. "If you're planning on doing some training yourself you'll wanna discard any mental you have on you."

Roy grinned at her sudden laugher. There was nothing better than a good laugh to break the ice, and Roy had the feeling that this girl has lots of ice to break through. He followed her steps through the rain and let out a huge sigh when entering the gap. His skin already had gone numb from the rain drops constantly pouring down on him.
Raising his eyebrows he gave her a slight grin and repeated in his head 'Corny..? Doesn't she read books or played some games that give her another view of adventuring?' Putting of his extremely soaked cape, revealing his sword and dagger on his back, he threw the heavy cloth of fabric on the ground. It was quite some of weight. "I hope you don't have anything break-able in your bag, otherwise the rain won't do any good." he let out at her worried cringe.
He stretched and let himself sit against a wall while spotting Kida doing her hair. "Yup, thats the negative side of rain" he said and pointed to his hair, which he already gave up to keep in shape somehow. "I can only agree to that, I-" He paused and coughed slightly "..tend to overdo it a lot, which isn't always good." Stroking his hair backwards only to feel again how it refused to move the way he wanted it to be. "Did you walk up all the way to train by yourself? Or how did you get up here?" Roy questioned.

"On foot, yeah. Walked into Veyyard, climbed and hiked the canyons from there." Kida rolled her neck to stretch it out, having no other way to fidget that she could think of, other than wasting effort on trying to get the water out of her clothes. If she ended up catching a cold in the end there was always medicine. And her body's immunity. She glanced up at him. "You want me to fix that for you?"
Thought it might have been pointless for her, she didn't mind helping him even if he was planning on going back out in the rain. It was good karma and Kida was willing to take all that she could get since her luck was normally not that great. "Actually I can get rid of all of it if you want me too. The water that is, not your hair." She smirked. Kida didn't want to freak him out into thinking she wanted to make him bald or something. Hell, she didn't even have scissors on her person. A dagger or two somewhere perhaps.
"Of course, it's pointless if you're going back out there, if you're planning on chilling here for a while at least you won't have to be wet." Kida blinked at him. "You're not planning on camping here, are you?"

Roy was impressed indeed to hear that she walked up the whole way just to start with her training up here. Roy was happy if he was able just to cross the rocks alive, not that he was worried about it or anything. Roy would never train up here, but that girl seemed to take it differently and she definitely looked tough enough for it.
Her question made him a little confused though. "Fix what?" he repeated with a weird look. "The water?" he asked and smirked at her. Not that he actually understood what she was talking about but he liked the joke about his hair.
"Camping? No way, I came here to hike, not to camp. Who on earth would camp in a place like this?" Roy started to evaluate, but giving it a second thought he added "Well, if I had nice company than I would like to camp here I guess." He tried to speak as neutral as possible, not that Kida would think of him as a creeper who was looking for girls in abandoned places or something else thats weird as that.
"But I have nothing against a little break." He continued. "So, it would be nice if you could help me out." Roy accepted, still not knowing what she was actually talking about, but he was eager to find out.

"Mkay." she replied. "Just do me a favor and stand still, alright?" When Kida had left home she would have had no prayer in her head strong enough to help her perform this trick. She out stretched her open hand, concentrating on unseen forces that she could feel, but would never be able to explain. It wasn't taking as much from her as it normally might have, considering all of the training she had been doing. Kida's focus was perfect and she could feel the molecules of water imbedded in Roy's clothes.
Although it seemed like nothing was happening for a moment, with Kida's eyes trained on his clothes, the water was slowly seeping from his clothes and pooling into a sphere that she kept controlled, hovering just beyond her finger tips. More and more water came to her by the second, but with so much soaked into his clothes Kida had to stop. With one swift motion she threw the sphere like a ball out of the gap in the rock. "Sorry this is going to take a little longer than I thought."
Kida began again, gathering the water from his clothes. She hadn't even started on his hair yet, but she was thinking that once or twice more should do it. "I'm a hydrokinetic. A water bender. Water player. Whatever you wanna call it, really. That's why I laughed about the rain."

"Hmm... okay?" Roy replied nodding and did as he was told. It looked kinda weird how they stood there, with her arm stretched out at him. but after finally something happened, Roy decided that the wait was worth it.
He smiled at the drops of water that seemed to fly out of his clothes towards her hand where she threw the water out of the gap with a gentle movement of her hand. "Just take your time." he said calmly, not seeing something like that for the first time. It reminded Roy of this girl he met in the Ianne forest, Rayl was her name. Does this mean that Kida is a demon too?
Trying not to look too confused over the question he came up with, he listened to Kidas explanation "Ah, I see." Still not moving. "Understandable, if you don't have to worry about being soaked." he laughed. "In fact, it reminds me of a person I have met before. But she was a demon, therefor she possessed these abilities." he continued as it was the most normal conversation he ever had. Making statements instead of questions was the easiest way to make people open up, if they want to. But to Roy she didn't look like a demon at all. Normally you can see it in the eyes, but hers didn't have that certain shine in them, as far as he could see in the dark.

"Well, I'm perfectly human if you're fishing for an answer." Kida would have laughed, probably would later, except for she was throwing another ball of water out of their little cave. "There. Feel better?" Though his clothes and hair might have been left with a parculiar feel, which sometimes hers were too, he was one hundred percent dry.
"That's why I chose this spot to train. It is perfect for water manipulation when the rain never stops." Able to relax more fully now, Kida crossed her arms and leaned back against the stone wall. A chill was trying to creep up her spine, but she beat it back mentally with a stick, per usual.
"How long have you been out here anyway?" She might have just saved him a cold and the prospect of that made her inner do gooder giddy.
