Achoo! Achoo! Sniffles
The sounds of cute sneezing and sniffling could be heard from Mitsuko’s bedroom. It’s been a year since Mitsuko was last sick with the cold, but now it struck her again. She had caught a draft of wind that had come through the slight crack of her window.
She honestly thought the night before she had closed her window tightly, but apparently that wasn’t the case.
Don‘t get her wrong she loved the wind, and as much as she loved singing about it in the song she wrote as a birthday present for her beloved, the angel didn’t like it when it made her sick. A year ago she was in bed and out of energy, but this time around she was doing work as a nurse but in the form of paper work.
On her desk there was a file folder on the left hand side and in that file folder there were papers that she had to finish signing. The angel was never one to procrastinate on anything but because of the wedding preparations and other things she had going on in her life, her work had started to fall behind, a little bit.
Not wanting her paper work to escalate she pushed through her cold and forced herself to sign as many things as she could. The angel did feel dizzy, but she did manage to at least get a juice box from downstairs, in order to keep herself hydrated.
People of course asked for her help with a few things, but she kindly told them that she had a cold and it would be best if they don’t get near her while the germs are still fresh.
Especially the children that she taught.
The angel had put herself in quarantine, almost as if she was like a virus that could infect someone at any moment, and she didn’t want to make other people ill so she kindly told them not to get too close to her. The children wanted her to give them a hug but they understood that she wasn’t feeling well so all of them hustled downstairs, and had gotten some materials to make a get-well card for the angel.
The angel did however set her phone volume to high so then that way she doesn’t miss a call and make people worried about her unintentionally.
Mitsuko soon heard footsteps approach her though since she had left her room door open in order for her not to feel like she is an enclosed space, and trapped in her bedroom.
“Please don’t get too close I’m germy and I don’t want to get you sick, I’m in quarantine.
Achoo!
Because she was so focused in doing her paper work she forgot that she still hadn’t had her breakfast yet.

Up he goes on the stairs to reach the second floor with the kitchen's tray he borrowed downstairs weighting his hands. Zero had just arrived in the inn after a night's worth of travel with Hunter from a mission, and since they were up all night doing their bounties, the chief allowed them a day of rest for today.
Of course, they decided to stop at Alamo Inn since it is strategically located right in between Veyyard and their bounty hunt, so spending a day there to sleep the tiredness off is as good as any plan before they continue their way back to Veyyard and start another mission there.
The moment they arrived in the inn, they were greeted by the children in the main hallways, who had provided them the fact that the angel of the inn is apparently very unwell. As tired and sleepy Zero is, the second he had received such news, he was quick to bolt up the stairs.
Though then the children stopped him, telling him how Aunty Miki wouldn't let anyone in her room in fear of them catching her cold. Zero heaved off a heavy sigh while shaking his head at how predictable Miki is with that trail of thought, so while Hunter went off to find a free room to nap in, Zero went straight to the kitchen...and made her breakfast.
He's supposedly hungry too, but all the common senses he's supposed to have and feel wouldn't even show or felt himself when he's this concerned of his sweetheart's well-being.
"Uncle Zero! Uncle Zero! You should wear a mask!"
One of the children approached him when she saw him heading up the stairs with a trayful of food, and seeing how the little girl is untying her own small scarf, Zero knelt down so she could tie her pink flowery scarf around his face so it would cover his nose and mouth.
"Why thank you very much, Elinor!" Zero said with traces of his smile present in his eyes as he gave the little girl a peck on the cheek as thanks. So there he goes, up the stairs, a tray in his hands, and a bright pink scarf around his face.
Arriving at Miki's door, he smiled to himself to see it partly open. Just as he's about to enter, he could hear Miki's voice calling out for him to not get too close because she's in quarantine. "Quarantine?" Zero repeated in a surprised tone, inviting himself inside anyway and walked over towards her desk where she's working.
Since he didn't even told Miki he'd be coming today due to the visit being a whimsical plan, his presence inside the inn so early in the morning must have surprised her. Zero never visited as early as this, the earliest he managed to get himself to visit her is by evening.
The sound of her sneeze made Zero paused in his tracks for a moment in surprise, then puts the tray of food on her vanity table, grabs a tissue box that was placed there and puts the box on top of her paperwork. "Health before work, Miki."
He said with a sigh before pulling one of the tissues and casually wiped the angel's nose with it without the least bit of revolt. "Geez, look at you, you're a pale as a ghost, what are you doing working?" He asked as he pulled the tissue from her face and smiled down at her, despite the scarf completely blocking his grin. His eyes are enough though to show his smile.
"Okay, enough. Close all this. Do it later." Taking the pen off of her hand, Zero places it at the side of her desk as he begins stacking her paperwork and puts it aside. "Now, you need food in your systems. Don't overwork yourself when you're sick, Miki. And to think you're the one who always told me that."
Heading back to her vanity table and grabbing the tray, he carried it all the way over to Miki's working desk and placed the modest tray right in front of her. "I made all of these myself for you, so eat, okay?" Only now his tone softens, gesturing at the angel to eat.
On the tray are a number of small plates, each holding different meals. Zero had made toast with a sunny-side up egg on top of it, a plate of baked beans with steam still coming out of it, and some kind of vegetable broth inside a bowl. Accompanying all of that is a cup of herbal tea, a large glass of water and a medication pill Madame May asked him to give Miki.
"Except the broth and the tea, Madame May prepared that. And the pill." He can only do so much with his limited cooking skills. "Breakfast in bed for you this morning, Miki~" Zero announced cheerfully at her.

His voice. Once the angel heard her Zero’s voice her heart started to race, and she started to smile from ear to ear. Zero never once was able to visit her in the mornings as his schedule was always packed with missions—One after another.
However they always spoke on the phone to say I love you. Now here he was. At the inn just as her nursing shift was starting even though she was tackling paperwork today.
Slowly the angel looked up at Zero, who was now at her side, with a tray full of food, as well as her medication. At first she thought she was dreaming so she gently and lovingly placed a hand on his cheek. Mitsuko had also felt the loving energy that Zero emitted as he was with her.
The angel felt blessed to have Zero in her life, to have someone that deeply loves her, and despite how busy the both of them can get at times, they always managed to be there for each other.
Mitsuko’s health was extremely delicate, while some individuals had strong health, she was one of the very few that didn’t. To make up for her weak health however, she was very strong at heart and kept a positive attitude through every illness that she goes through. Zero was the special individual that was by her side through it all, and she truly wanted to thank him for it.
“Zero, you are always here for me. It’s like we both know when one is in trouble. I do have the cold, but here you are helping me even though you are so tired. Dad told me how you are all busy with missions and even he can’t get the rest that he needs either. I want you to know how thankful I am that you are here with me.”
“But I will find this food much more enjoyable if you eat it with me, let’s have breakfast together. I’ll be right back okay? I have something for you, I just have to go downstairs to get it. “
Mitsuko smiled at her love and she slowly went downstairs. The cold has caused her body to be in a lot of pain, but Mitsuko didn’t let it show; much less tell Zero that she was in pain.
On her desk there was a recent picture of her and Zero in an angel picture frame, of them sharing a kiss together. That picture was taken the night they had gotten engaged. Also in that frame was a small strip of pictures of them with Jean and Hunter.
Hunter was doing one of his funny poses in the background, and Jean and Zero was kissing Mitsuko’s cheeks. Jean had kissed Mitsuko’s left cheek and Zero kissed her right cheek.
Mitsuko was in the center of the picture. With a surprised blushing look on her face- her lips made the most perfect O shape. Mitsuko had called that picture ‘ Who loves the angel?’ The answer? Jean loves Mitsuko as a father, while Zero loves her as her future husband and as her best friend of 11 years.
The other picture that Mitsuko always had with her was the one that Zero had given her in the heart locket a year ago on their anniversary. She has never taken the locket off except to show Duo, but ever since then she never took it off, it was always around her neck at all times.
Even when she was in the hospital because of her stab wound, that locket never came off. If she had died that day, she would be buried with it on and go to heaven with it. That locket was there with her and Zero through every challenge, and as a symbol of Zero’s love for her it gave her strength and reminded her that he was always with her.
Meanwhile downstairs Mitsuko had gotten a fork for Zero to eat with, and she also got some Hershey’s chocolate kisses. These small little chocolates were Mitsuko’s way of giving Zero her kiss. While she can’t physically kiss him right now since her cold can catch on faster if their lips touched, she could give him her kiss in the form of these small chocolates.
The angel also put a little note beside the chocolates that said I love you, and slowly she made her way back up the stairs, to Zero.
“ Okay darling please hold out the palm of your hand. I am giving you my kiss in the form of chocolates, I can’t kiss you right now due to how germy I am, and if we risk it and share a kiss right now, you will get sick and I don’t want that, so I give these chocolates and I love you.”
The angel then gave Zero a fork to eat share the breakfast with her, and soon she began talking and started to have a loving conversation with Zero. “I see you are wearing Eleanor’s scarf haha! That sweetheart loves pink. We made that together actually when I was teaching the children how to knit. Eleanor insisted that we use pink as her color of choice.”
“And I am working today because of all this paperwork that has gotten backed up. A nurse never rests; sometimes my shifts begin at 7 AM to 7 PM. We are understaffed right now because of how many people have gotten ill. So there must be someone present at least to help. Even though I am just signing a few things at least I am here, and not off duty, and I am still at home.”
“And in case of any emergency I have a little radio at my side here, so that those that are here can contact me. You know how you and dad have radios attached to you guys for communication? We nurses have that too. The only difference is our radio’s only work inside the vicinity. “
Then Mitsuko remembered something that she wanted to invite Zero to.
“Pumpkin, if you are not busy Friday night I was wondering… Would you like to come to the production of the nutcracker? The children have worked very hard to put on their own production of my favorite play, and I would really love it if you were there opening night. If.. you can’t make it I understand, with the way things are at HQ, its hard to find time for some relaxation.
Hahaha, Madame May said if I was in this play I would be the sugar plum princess, and you would be my prince. She also said that you would make sure you were the prince instead of some other guy. The way she said it though made me laugh. I just really love the play. Yes my mother gave me the named me Clara after the girl in the nutcracker, but there is something wonderful about the story.”
As the angel talked with Zero she held onto his hand gently and the warmth of their love hugging both of their hearts. She always loved talking with Zero, and talking with him helped get her mind off of the pain of her illness. She then stared at the pill and looked at Zero.
“Babe is it okay if I don’t take this pill? I’m sorry but I feel like my body should pass through this on it’s own, and have a chance to detoxify itself… If I have too much medicine it might throw my body out of balance. I’m already on medication because of how my stab wound scar is… Whatever was on my father’s sword when he injured me that night still hasn’t passed through completely… I’m healing slower because of it.”

[Time Travel: Married Mitsuko here to add a summary to this]
Mitsuko made herself comfortable in Zero's office on the couch-like bed that they made love on a few weeks ago. As she looked out the window she remembered the time that Zero and her were newly dating and she had gotten sick with a bad cold, and how Zero showed up at the inn without warning. He took care of her every time she was sick and made sure that she was okay before he had to head back to Veyyard. Now many years later, they were married, had children, and were embracing their newly revived connection and marriage. She had a lot to thank Zero for, and as she looked over to him while he worked remotely she smiled. Zero didn't seem to mind his wife hanging out with him in his office, in fact he welcomed it even if he was distracted by her soothing presence from time to time, because all he wanted to do was go over to her and hug her, but he had to focus on his work. But the couple would exchangeloving glances at each other, until she did say something. "I love you Zero. Thank you for everything."
