Click....click, click.
Kida had bent down to examine a skeleton draped in warrior's garb and decided to snap a photo or two with her camera. A customer at her job, the Cattlemen's Steakhouse had told her this field had to be seen to be believed. And they were right. It was incredible to see and quite saddening.
So many lives lost in past battles, battles that Kida wasn't even aware of. Bec must have sensed the sad tone in the air because he wasn't wandering around, exploring like he might have. Instead he was perched on her shoulder, staying very close. Perhaps the smell of death from long ago bothered him.
Why she was taking the photos, Kida didn't know. But she felt like what had happened in this place had to be known, couldn't be forgotten. Hell, maybe she'd even write an article for the local newspaper. Kida straightened and looked across the field. The sun was setting and it had spread a brilliant pattern of colors across the sky. The red seemed to weep for past sunsets unseen here.
Spears and other bits of weaponry were scattered with the remains. It was a sadness that Kida couldn't weep. "I wonder what was worth fighting for here.....worth dying for." she wondered aloud.

Mitsuko overheard the young woman's voice commenting on what there was to be fighting for... The angel was wondering what in the world was she doing in a place like this but this whole new world needed to be explored. She couldn't just allow her fear of certain places stop her from exploring.
"You know.... I sometimes wonder that same answer myself to your question... knowing that there are many... People fight for different reasons... no matter how foolish it can be sometimes... "
The young angel started to walk slowly to the skeleton and put a bunch of flowers beside it.

"AH!" Kida almost jumped out of her skin. The battle field was indeed sad, but it also had an eerie feeling. She hadn't known that there was anyone near by. "Uh...Eheh, sorry, you gave me a start..." Kida watched the young girl place flowers by the skeleton. The woman was beautiful and had a gentle aura that Kida knew she could never pull off. One that let others know she truly cared, that she was a good soul.
"May I...?" she gestured with her camera. She wanted to take a picture of the flowers the girl had left as well as a picture of the girl herself. She contrasted so with the field in some ways, yet still looked somber.

"I should apologize I am sorry to have startled you. And sure you can take a picture."
Being a artist herself Mitsuko was intrigued by photography- but by other people. She loved seeing others' interpretation of art and their own meanings.
"If I may ask, are you a photo journalist or just a photographer? If you are interested in story telling, and capturing pictures that interest you, I'd like to see them when they are developed okay? I'm interested in anything that tells a story, is artistic.. and even a combination of both."
Mitsuko kneeled down beside the flowers and clasped her hands together in prayer- as if she was telling the lost soul that was once a part of the skeleton to rest in peace.

"It wasn't your fault, really, just happened." Kida shrugged and Bec protested the sudden shift before scrambling back into place. "Oh, no, no....I just take pictures for fun, I don't--" Kida stopped herself when the girl bent down in prayer. She didn't want to interrupt a sacred moment like that, it would just be rude.
Want to see her pictures? Sure she had quite a few in her camera that she could show her at the moment, but Kida had only idly been toying with the idea of an article. She doubted her writing skills were good enough for a paper or magazine to really take interest.

After a few minutes Mitsuko had finished her prayer that she had given to the soul.
"Even if it is just for fun I'd love to see them even though. *giggle* Some people even do photo essays even if they aren't planning on it. Someone once told me... every picture tells a story and you don't need many words to tell it."
Mitsuko stood up again and smiled. "No matter what you do for fun.. embrace it even though. I bet some of your photos that you took thus far would be interesting to look at. I won't judge you, or your photos."

Kida blinked. Wow, she really is... Kida lacked a word besides 'good'. Heavenly? Innocent? Something like that. "Well, I have them here if you want to see them." She clicked her camera over into gallery mode, which would show off all the pictures she'd taken. "Press this button to see the next one." Kida pointed and offered the girl the camera to see.
"I was sort of hoping it wasn't disrespectful to take pictures here....I'm not sure though."

She gently took the camera from the young woman's hands and pressed the button as she was instructed. As she looked at each image it really was interesting to look at, each image had it's own composition. contrast and artistic value.
"Wow... these really are amazing... the right moment, timing.... you really do have a talent... even if it is just for fun. And... I can't really be the judge as to if these photos are right or wrong but you should do what your heart tells you.
It's what newspapers today for example face right? to publish certain photographs in respect to ethical values. But at the same time wouldn't you want people to know a piece of history that was long forgotten? it's the same respect to photographers. To shoot something but is it ethical. I can't answer... but I can always help a person outweigh the pros and cons. In the end it's your decision."
She smiled and her voice wasn't harsh or anything like that it was a friendly advice giving sort of voice. "But I like your photos no matter the outcome. To me they tell an important story."

"I didn't really mean it that way..." Kida shrugged. "But it's not like I can find the relatives of nameless soldier to ask." And that was probably the worst pity, Kida thought. That they were nameless and no one would remember what they had done, no one would remember or know where they had gone. "It would be nice to know their names at the very least....It's so sad."
"Speaking of names...What's yours? I'm Kida." Manners said she was supposed to say 'nice to meet you' or something like that, but she felt that the mood was too somber for such words. It was getting darker little by little, but Kida wasn't going to fear the dark here. After all if these poor souls could endure it year after year, she could handle it for a night.
On her shoulder Bec crooned softly in lament. He could smell the old scent of death everywhere and it made him want to sing a sad song. As he did so he nuzzled into the neck of his owner, as if asking her not to leave him along here.

Mitsuko nodded in agreement about the sadness that was surrounding the whole area the emotion was strong no doubt about it. As it was getting darker Mitsuko allowed a faint non blinding light to illuminate everything around them since darkness is her poison considering she is the angel of light. Her hair flowed with the wind as the light illuminated the surrounding area.
"I'm Mitsuko.. Nice to meet you Kida." She also noticed the fire lizard that was around Kida and smiled some more to the creature.

"Yeah..." Kida stroked Bec while he sang his sad song, watching in the distance of the fields. There was an eerie sort of feeling that a lone warrior in full garb would walk over the horizon, checking on his fallen comrades or collecting the pieces.
Kida looked through the last couple of pictures she had taken. "Do many people come here...?" She didn't know if Mitsuko was a native of this area or if she was just visiting, but it was a question that kept plucking at her curiosity. Hell, Kida had expected some sort of fence or sign saying 'stay out' or something like that.

"i don't know... you see I'm not really from around here. I'm actually residing in the Sougen Prairies at the Alamo Inn. I was just in this area because I was curious, and wanted to explore, as well as give these souls peace. War is extremely sad... I agree... my heart feels both the pain in losing their lives, being forgotten, and being faced with a decision. A decision that is neither right or wrong."
Mitsuko paused for a second. She heard the fire lizard's sad song and went over to them. "it's okay to be sad, its an emotion that helps purify the soul. What we can do for these people... we could try and build tomb stones for those that have fallen. Or if we can't make one for everybody how about we just make one big one that represents all that passed away?"

O...kay... "Sure, we could do that...." But who were they to do such a thing? Kida didn't know these people, didn't know their wishes and their hearts. Neither did Mitsuko Kida was sure. Sure it was sad, but they as people had no connection to this place. The saddest part of all was that they had no right to feel sad for those that had died here. It was like assuming they were everything Kida or another might think them to be. Putting a mask over the true person.
"You can go ahead if you want....But with out the names of those who have died I won't do it myself. A name is a very important thing."

Mitsuko took the time to think about what Kida said to her. Truth was Kida had a point, a point in which Mitsuko should pay attention to. The young woman always thought with her heart and rarely with her head which is something that could easily get her into tough situations even though she means well.
In this case Mitsuko nodded in understanding Kida's point of view and she respected that.
"I... should apologize once again. I never thought of it that way.... And there is no excuse for it... even though my heart is in the right place. I... have to be careful to not let my emotions sway my way of thinking logically."
She also thought that if one day she found any archival materials about the people that had fallen in battle perhaps of the people would be identified.

Kida blinked. "You don't have to apologize. Like you said you're heart was in the right place." Wow, she takes what I say to heart. You don't meet a lot of people like that anymore. "Just because it's not something that's right for me doesn't mean that it's something that's not right for you, ya know?"
"Everybody's different." Which would include the dead, of course, but Kida wasn't going to say that now.
