It was a calm and quiet afternoon, filled with truckers and old-timers peacefully eating lunch. Once a month, Duo would come down in the saloon to wind down with his keyboard, performing an easy-listening jazz with the old group of men who usually plays the music here. He might not look like it, but Duo has a wide range of music genre he's capable to perform in.
Thus there he is, playing his keyboard among the group of old men performing jazz, casually playing the usual typical diner tune. That is, until a group of four teenage boys with a seemingly gangster-like sense of wardrobe from across the room loudly booed at them. The men he's performing with doesn't seem to mind the booing, but Duo intensely glared at the boys' general direction.
Probably amused by Duo's obvious contempt, the boys kept on making fun of him and his taste of music. Duo's generally a pleasant individual, but if someone ever mocks the music that he's currently playing so openly in front of him, he will greatly take offense from them. The group of boys from across the room laughed. Based on what they wear, Duo can safely guess they're the local hooligans of these parts. Their hair are overly spiked and dyed in unnatural colors. Tattoos and piercings are all over their skin, thus Duo can't help but seeing them as uncultured troublemakers.
It's until the boys suddenly made fun of his hair did Duo snapped, "HEY! What do you know of music?!"
"Oh, we know enough to see that you got a bad taste in them!"
Duo did not stop playing his keyboard even as he's yelling because the old men continued playing the jazz tune despite the fight that's about to occur, "What the hell?! I'm playing music right NOW to know quite a bit about them, I don't see YOU backing up your claim!" He only says this because he can obviously see the guitar case these boys have with them, thus assuming that they're some kind of raw band playing in a garage.
"Hold the phone. Are you...challenging us..? ...Pfffftt..gahahahahhaha!!"
They exploded in collective laughter, which further pisses Duo off more. "And what if I am?!" Truth be told, he's actually curious what kind of music these teenage boys are into. He suspects punk, or rock, by their style. While 3 of the boys are laughing at him, one of them suddenly stood up from his seat and pulled something out from his pocket.
"Fine. Challenge accepted."
The boy held up a pair of drumsticks he just pulled out and Duo's eyes shone in a commencing music battle. It's been a while since he's this excited to face off an opponent, because Duo's usually too friendly so he collaborates a lot with different groups. The boys laughed but sets up their equipments near their table, the drummer even goes so far as setting his drums up on their table.
It somewhat impressed Duo that they actually brought an amp and some kind of portable turntable and expertly plugged everything with the minimal plugs available near them. He's not sure what's the use of the turntable, but it looks like the kind djs used, and one of the boys is manning it. The other one is on guitar, electric apparently, while the last boy just stood there, smirking at Duo of the commencing battle, almost confidently.

Suddenly, as Duo and the old men he's playing with are performing the slow calming jazz, the young drummer across the room started playing without warning. The old men behind Duo abruptly stopped playing in surprise, but Duo resumed the jazz tune he's playing with a glare on his face, refusing to back down. The boy who's manning the dj board thing also began scratching some kind of disc, generating a rather interesting sound.
Then, all of a sudden, as the drummer and the boy with the guitar made eye contact and nodded, the guitarist jumped in with a rather heavy and surprisingly catchy set of shreds. This surprised Duo so much that his fingers stopped playing as he stared at the boys with his jaw parting.
They're completely taking the music in their own hands, and by now, the attention of the whole bar is towards the group of boys, expertly jamming at the opposite side of the jazz band. Even the chefs from the kitchen stepped out to see what's going on. The drummer and the guitarist has excellent communication skills with how they're signalling each other with only their eyes and nods of their heads.
Catching himself back on his feet, Duo angrily resumed his jazz tune, now with his teeth gritting together. The drummer and the guitarist seemed to mock Duo, following Duo's tune with a slower rhythm, until the only boy with no instruments jumped up on his seat and started rapping with the combined music of jazz and rock.
Duo was pleasantly surprised by this, but kept on playing that same tune, intent on standing his ground. The rapper has a loud clear voice so his singing was loud enough to fill the entire diner without a microphone, plus he's rapping while following Duo's piano keys. What ticked Duo off is the kid even managed to mock him while rapping...
Despite this, and Duo hates to admit it, but those boys are surprisingly kind of good. As the song continues, the boys unsuspectingly moved on to some kind of chorus with perfect harmony, all of them singing out loud together while fiercely eyeing Duo.
It's so catchy, Duo was stunned for a moment, staring at them while widely gaping in utter shock. His hands playing the keyboard was completely frozen until the end of the chorus where he hurriedly continued his tune.
To his surprise, he realized that his jazz actually sounded good with their music, so Duo improvised and experimented as he played with his keyboard, completely going all out. His feat attracted the boys' attention as they looked at each other. The rapper changed into the boy with the turntable who has a higher tone of voice but raps just as well, and Duo found himself following their music now, unlike how they followed him initially.
By this time, Duo got pulled in the music and played with them instead of against them. Same goes with the boys, as they genuinely seemed to enjoy performing with Duo. The chorus came and the boys sang enthusiastically together, repeating the chorus until the drummer signaled to all of them using the faster rhythm in his beat that the end of the song is near, to which they all responded and played in perfect harmony.
The singer motioned to Duo, inviting him to sing the last verse, to which Duo gladly does in his own style, happy in being acknowledged by the talented boys.
The boys are smiling widely like the children they are to Duo's rendition of their chorus. As their music came to an end, the dj boy scratched his disk one last time, and the whole inhabitant of the bar stood up and applaud them. Duo laughed and strode over across the room to high-five with the boys as they began chatting about what just happened. They then happily invited Duo to eat lunch with them.
In the end, the bitter fight they had had transformed into a friendly truce, thanks to their unplanned music collaboration. At this, Duo thought, he certainly shouldn't judge people by their appearance until he gets to play music with them, find out their taste and ease himself in due to his well-verse interest in all genres.
The boys also admitted that Duo's little jazz tune goes perfectly with their song and expressed that jazz isn't half bad.
