The sounds of footsteps could be heard as Mitsuko and Zero had decided to take a walk to Penang port. The port at this time of year was calm and quiet, though there were little ships passing by now and again. Mitsuko needed to spend time privately with her husband, in a quiet serene setting since the Alamo Inn was busy at this time of day, and HQ wasn’t the safest place for her to visit due to her pregnancy.
Ever since the angel got pregnant she has not stepped foot in Veyyard at all, instead Jean and the others would come visit her if they wanted to see her, and even the children from the orphanage did as well.
Mitsuko is taking all safety precautions seriously and it is all for her unborn child. Setting foot in dangerous places like Veyyard would only heighten Mitsuko’s emotions, and heightened emotions like anxiety and fear would end up stressing her out and her baby. So while she goes through her pregnancy she needs to be in surroundings that are safe, quiet. Today she wanted Zero and her to talk privately about the events that happened months ago in regards to Kouji’s death.
That situation was truly hard for her to stomach, in fact after the battle, once Zero had taken her home, she ran into the bathroom and she threw up. The image of her father’s dead body got to her, and this is the second death she has witnessed right in front of her.
Her mother was killed for absolutely no reason, and her father had to be punished. He posed such a dangerous threat to Mitsuko that he would not stop at anything but to make sure Mitsuko had lived in fear for the rest of her life.
When Kouji was alive she always had this invisible target on her back that was just waiting to be struck. But despite all of this, despite the violence, despite the abuse, Kouji was still her father. How does a daughter manage to cope with seeing two parents die? It can be a very traumatizing experience, but there was something about Mitsuko that made her strong.
She accepted why Kouji had to die, if her father weren’t a major threat she wouldn’t have condoned his death. Now she was dealing with the aftermath. She was saddened by how things turned out, even when she was battling her dad, and even when he had shot her with her own gun, she still talked to him. She still tried to reason with him.
Mitsuko didn’t like fighting but as she has come to learn about this domain, you have to defend yourself, defend others, and in her case defend her son, husband, and overall family.
The angel didn’t even hate her father. She didn’t hate him when he stabbed her, she didn’t hate him when he insulted her, and she didn’t hate him when he shot her.
Mitsuko had that heart of a daughter, which was trying to get through to her father. A father is supposed to be the man to protect his children, not hurt them. But sometimes there are those that aren’t blessed with good parents.
Mitsuko had been without family since she was five years old, as she was kidnapped at that age, and left with an older couple who became her god parents. When she had enrolled at the boarding school DD, she met Kankorou who she had no idea was her brother. Kouji’s son born from infidelity.
And now years later at the age of 23, she feels a everlasting love, and peace wash over her soul. She has a better life now because she married and has a son on the way. Her days now were filled with joy and laughter, and sometimes she and Zero flirted with each other. Mitsuko held onto her husband’s hand tightly as they walked to Penang Port. The angel could feel Zero’s eyes looking at her with such concern and gentleness.
While she was saddened by how things turned out between her father, and Jake during the battle, slowly she was healing and it was very healthy to talk about what she was feeling and who better person to talk with then her husband himself?
Afterall Zero was the one that believed in her when she didn’t believe in herself, he stood by and supported her as she fought with all her might, and he was the person that was very proud of her. When she was afraid of facing her father, Zero told her not to run. She wasn’t alone to face her fears.
The breeze that came from the direction of the ocean was a little cool so she wasn’t wearing her signature dresses. She had dressed for the environment here and it was more of a casual style. As long as she was comfortable in what she was wearing due to her pregnancy and her weight gain, then she didn’t mind.
Mitsuko was quiet during the walk to the port since she needed to sort out her thoughts and remind herself to keep calm because she is pregnant. But eventually she spoke, and she didn’t let go of Zero’s hand. Not even once. She looked at him with a soft expression on her face.
“I didn’t know that I had this strength inside of me to really face my father. Saying it and actually doing it was two different things babe.. And even now after all what’s happened I am still mind blown. I am even still mind blown about Kankorou, about how… someone can make a promise and just break it so easily." Her eyes looked ahead at the ocean before them as she spoke.
Mitsuko is an angel, and a very loving one at that, and when people hurt her and not take her feelings into consideration, it can be a while before the saddened emotions pass through her system, but she has every right to acknowledge them, and to say what is still hurting her, what is still bothering her, and what is still very unsettling to her. Mitsuko squeezed her husband's hand tightly, as she started to come to terms with all the events that have occurred for the last two years.
" I take everything to heart so if someone is very kind to me or lies to me I remember… It’s been two years now since Kankorou was by my bedside and telling me that he was there from now on..” The angel was clearly disappointed in her older brother. He knew exactly what it means to make a promise, and it is a huge responsibility to keep a promise. He's old enough to understand. While people make mistakes, this time it wasn't a mistake. It was a choice.
This wasn't a conversation without reason. Mitsuko needed her husband to understand, she needed her husband to understand everything that she's feeling. She and Zero don't keep secrets from each other, and they have been together for two years now and they have both grown and changed, and matured. While there were moments in which they shed tears, and experience a vast range of emotions, they know that their decisions and how they handle issues will affect the well being of their unborn child.
Mitsuko can't have stress, if she has stress then she can put her baby in distress and pose herself at a high risk for a miscarriage, so as she spoke to Zero, she didn't allow her sad emotions to get the better of her where she breaks down and cries, instead she took a deep breath and spoke to Zero as a very calm wife, on her road to healing.
She needs this time now with her husband to continue on her healing process without any setbacks. The angel spoke with honesty, and this time she didn't sugar coat anything.
She allowed her true emotions show, and how deeply Kankorou's actions and Kouji's death impacted her.
“I still remember how I felt when he made such a promise…. I.. gave him the benefit of the doubt and look what happened. I’m not angry with him, but I do remember that day so clearly. But I am not going to make any excuses for his actions, he’s a grown man Zero how can he not know what he was saying to me? He knew what he was saying to me. I know things do come up and life does happen…. But that was too much." She paused for a bit before she spoke again.
"My phone somehow recorded it… and I still have it…” Mitsuko took out her phone and went to where that file was saved and it was dated: August 13 two years ago… … She pressed play:
"Michi, I'm here for you from now on."
[font=times cy[That one line that Kankorou had said to her.. it struck her heart, but she didn’t cry. Being there for someone didn’t always mean physically Kankorou could have kept in touch with her by letters or email, or by phone.. but there was nothing of the sort.
And she has checked her email and her phone religiously. she could draw on these conclusions. She can only express to Zero what she feels, heard, and now knows. She can’t tell Zero what she doesn’t know. She can only tell Zero what she knows.
Common courtesy is something that Mitsuko valued, if Kankorou had told her that he couldn’t stay, but keep contact with her by different means she would understand. But when you say a line like that… and go against it… It hurts the angel’s core. This was now a day to close everything off and just talk to her husband about it. She faced Zero and just touched his cheek.
"If he had just explained to me that he couldn’t stay I would understand… Jake even told me why he himself was away from me, it is because of all the confusion that went on and now Jake is making the effort. I am not someone that doesn’t understand others Zero, people have lives and can’t stay in one place for too long… but… I was sick when Kankorou said that to me." The angel began stroking Zero's cheek gently with the back of her hand, and the gentle wind passed between them.
Before the angel spoke again she placed a hand over her fragile heart. "I should have said don’t make promises you can’t keep… but I didn’t say that. I wanted to give my brother a chance. Both Jake and Kankorou are older then me, and I am the little sister that should be able to go to my big brothers for counsel… Mitsuko looked out towards the ocean once more and she saw ships leaving the port. And then she stated to Zero the brother that she could only go to for counsel.
"But I can only go to Jake. Jake does love me very much. The point is.. I don’t appreciate my emotions being played like a fiddle. I am not a coat that someone just put away and picks it back up when they want to wear it. I can’t tell you what I don’t know Zero. I can only tell you what I have seen and heard with my own eyes, and even what I feel deep down…” Her overall being was super sensitive right now, partly because of what happened, and also because she is pregnant which causes her hormones to be imbalanced.
“Promises are special… We both know that darling.” Mitsuko gave Zero her pinky finger and intertwined it with his. She never wanted them to take things that are important to them too lightly. They should appreciate what they have with each other. While their dreams are coming true Mitsuko knows that somewhere across the blue ocean, someone is wishing for some of the very same dreams.
This conversation that Mitsuko was having with her beloved husband wasn’t about being angry or holding malice. It was about dealing with the aftermath of everything that has happened from two years ago, to now, and making peace with it before their child is born, and now Zero was her husband and she knew that he would listen to her and comfort her..
She has her husband, and she knows she can tell her husband anything.
