“And the prince and princess lived happily ever after… The end~” Matthew slowly closed his storybook that he had just finished reading and hugged it gently. He glanced outside his bedroom window towards the afternoon sun, and smiled to himself. He had always loved stories with happy endings, and the lessons that the fairytales left behind for him to grasp and to understand.
The golden haired boy very much enjoyed how the prince would protect the princess with all of his heart, at the risk of his own life. Come to think of it whenever Matthew looked at his parents they were like a king and queen in his eyes. They protected each other, and him. As a little child there would be times in which he would have nightmares and he would ask his parents to help him get rid of the monsters, that hid underneath his bed and closet.
His parents never hesitated of course; they would always defend him from the monsters that scared him. But now Matthew wanted the opportunity to defend someone, someone that needed help. Someone that needed a friend. With these thoughts in mind he said outloud:
“I wonder what it would feel like to have someone to protect. I mean I try to protect mama and daddy but I am too little, and they are the ones protecting me… Sometimes it’s hard being small… What do you think Mr Bun Bun?”
Matthew looked towards his rabbit’s direction however his cage was empty. “Mr. Bun Bun?.. Oh come on Mr. Bun Bun the story wasn’t that[ bad…. Why do you run away? Are you a magician’s bunny rabbit?”
Matthew let out a soft sounding sigh and got off of his bed and began to search his room thoroughly for his cotton tail best friend. He couldn’t find him however after triple checking his hiding spots, so Matt wanting to be a prince/hero for a day dressed the part by wearing a white outfit. The white outfit complimented his blonde hair, and blue eyes. Just as he was about to leave the inn, he realized that he couldn’t leave through the main entrance, since his parents would have seen him.
So using his inquisitive mind he saw that he could use his bedroom window to get out of the house. He felt bad that he had to keep this from his parents, but they would never let him go off on his own since he is very young, and he wanted to show them that he too can be a hero and he doesn’t want to let them down. His parents are his inspiration after all, and all he wants to do is make them happy and proud.
Milo his mother’s dove was Matthew’s guardian ever since he was born. Since Milo was always there for Mitsuko and Zero, now it was Matthew’s turn to be watched over by Milo. Milo was a smart bird and she can tell that Matthew was going to sneak out the house. She let out a little sound to indicate her disapproval, but all Matt had said once he turned to look at her was:
“Please Milo just trust me. If it makes you feel better you can come along with me okay? You can keep me safe, and if anything goes wrong you can fly to get my mommy and daddy… Okay?” Milo wasn’t so sure about this but since she was going to be with Matthew, then she hesitantly agreed. Both of them exited through the window and Matthew led the way to where he believes is the direction that his rabbit went in.
As Matthew trudged along on his adventure his conscience was bothering him. He knew that leaving his house, without telling his parents was wrong, but he also knew that they were very loving and forgiving, but of course they would want to talk to him about it. ‘I’m sorry mommy and daddy…. But you will be proud! And I will be a hero…’
The little boy had walked slowly and kept in mind to not run or make his heart pump faster then it should. Eventually he made it all the way to St. Lux Eterna where the orphans lived. These children were well behaved but now and again there was one or two that seemed troubled, and sometimes maybe even lonely.
It was there in this place that he saw a lonely little girl sitting all by herself. Without hesitation he approached the girl, and gave her his hand to hold. A simple gesture like that should make anyone feel safe and secure. Matthew had offered her a smile as well.
“I’m Matthew. Don’t be sad you have a friend now…. And if any big bad monsters try to hurt you I will protect you. It’s sad to play all by yourself, it’s better when more then one person joins in… You’re an orphan right? I’m sorry. Just keep smiling okay?”
As he talked to this little girl he heard footsteps approaching him.
