Jack trekked her way through Tenka on her way back from a business meeting in Kumo. She had on a fancy suit with a thick suit jacket that reached below her knees for the cold Tenka weather. A black scarf was wrapped around her neck, covering part of her ears as well and reaching just under her nose. On her hands were a pair of black gloves, though her hands remained in her pockets as she walked.
There was a small overnight bag hanging across her shoulder and a black briefcase that hung at her wrist just outside her left pocket. She let out a small sigh as she finally found the path that lead to a familiar diner. Jack didn't have the chance to visit Cali's very often, but she enjoyed it when she could come. It had probably been a few months since her last visit.
Jack let out a deep breath of air and smiled slightly as she drew nearer to the diner. It was certainly nice to see this place again. She had heard rumours on her way there about a shooting that occurred a couple of months back, but Jack was glad to see that the place looked like usual.
She stopped a few meters away from the diner for a moment, looking at it. It's good to be back here again. She thought with a smile as she lifted her right hand out of her pocket and let out a breath of air as she lowered her scarf down, her smile now visible. I guess I can take this off now. She thought as she slowly removed her scarf while walking towards the door.
She quietly entered Cali's diner, her briefcase in her left hand and her scarf being carefully tucked into her right coat pocket. I wonder if my usual seat is available. She thought to herself with a smile as she glanced around the diner. There weren't very many people there, but Jack was glad to see that Cali's was still getting good business out here.
When her eyes finally landed on the table she usually sits at, her smile slanted in a slightly disappointed manner to see someone already sitting there. Oh well, guess I'll have to choose another seat. She thought to herself as she looked back around the diner and finally chose a table by the window. She placed her briefcase and overnight bag on the window seat, then took off her jacket and folded it over on top of her bags. She then took a seat next to them and glanced out the window with a relaxed smile.
Her face was pink from the frost, but she didn't pay much attention to it. She rather liked the cold from time to time, especially when it meant being able to eat at Cali's. A young female waitress came over to Jack's table and asked for his drink order. Jack smiled at the waitress in a charming manner and asked for a pot of oolong tea.
Something about Kumo made Jack fall in love with asian teas. There was something very warm and calming about them, and not just because they're warm teas. Every time Jack had a meeting in Kumo, she always found herself drinking tea for the next few weeks and almost nothing else.
Jack's smile fell slightly as she looked down at the table now, recalling the business meeting she just came from. Apparently, the higher ups were upset because the casino she works at didn't quite reach quota this month. She didn't know why her casino's manager asked Jack to go with him, but she was almost certain that he wouldn't be returning. Apparently they only let Jack go because she's the North Star Casino's star black jack dealer. Jack looked up towards the ceiling at that thought with a quiet sigh.
She had grown up with her family involved in this mob business, but it never quite made sense to her. She only really did was she was told so that she wouldn't be killed; also, so that she wouldn't have to see anyone else she cared about be killed. She looked down sadly as she recalled Ian, the only boy she ever fell in love with. I suppose I won't ever have a normal life... She thought a bit sadly.
Her train of thought was cut off suddenly by the waitress placing a pot of tea and a mug on the table. Jack quickly smiled charmingly up at her again and offered her thanks. "I'd also love one of your turkey sandwich specials." Jack said in a gentle and happy tone to the waitress, who took down his order with a blushing smile. It was not uncommon for women to find themselves falling for Jack, but Jack was always completely oblivious to such things.
She looked down at her cup and reached out for the pot to pour her tea. Her hand froze in mid-air as she finally realized she had forgotten to take off her gloves. eh.. I really forgot about them... She let out a quiet sigh as she pulled her hand back and finally removed her gloves with care. I need to stop being so forgetful. She placed her gloves on top of her jacket then moved to pour her tea again.
She slowly lifted her steaming cup of tea to her lips and closed her eyes as she inhaled the warming scent. She gently blew on the surface to cool it down a bit, then took a sip. Ah... oh yeah. I should check my date book. She thought suddenly, and placed the cup back on the table. With her other hand, she pulled a small date book out of her suit jacket pocket and opened it up to the current month.
The day after tomorrow was circled with a red pen. Upon seeing this, Jack's eyes widened slightly. I suppose it has already been thirty days since last time, hasn't it? She thought to herself, as the red circle marked when she expected her period to come again. She let out a quiet sigh as she flipped to the next page of her date book. Having a woman's body is so troublesome.
She had considered, before, the idea of getting her actual sex changed to that of a male's body by a capable surgeon in Gradia. However, as she looked into that surgeon's history, she realized he also had close ties with the mob she was involved in. There was no way she could go through with that, and be at the mercy of some twisted scientist. She figured she'd just have to make sure to keep her secret of being female all her life.
Jack opened her eyes again and looked down at her cup of tea. I guess that means I have to be careful not to get sick or injured in any way that I can't handle by myself. I suppose I could always call my father, but I've been avoiding seeing him since... Her expression changed to a sort of sadness again as she recalled the night Ian was assassinated.
What was his name again? She thought as she lifted her date book up again and began to flip through it to a note page. Her hands held the page open as she began to feel anger, but forced her expression to neutral. Kagetsuki.... If I could, I would find you and kill you one day. She thought, then let out another sigh and closed her date book, placing it off to the side. But there's no way I could kill such a skilled assassin. He's renowned for a reason. I'm just a black jack dealer.
She picked up her cup of tea again with her forced neutral expression and took another sip. She closed her eyes as she did so, wishing she could kill that man for killing her fiance.
