Syo headed out on Saturday in one of his favourite jackets with a matching fedora. Because of the crown theme, he tended to call this his princely outfit. His older brother, Hatori, teased him about that at times by calling him "Syo-Ouji" whenever he wore this. Still, Syo would always laugh along with the teasing, taking it as a complement from his loving brother.
Syo always loved the mall. Near his father's place back in Tokyo, on the way home from his school, there was a particular hat shop that sold the most interesting fedoras. That was where he'd gotten most of the ones he had now. Syo fell in love with fedoras at that store, and he sometimes spent a lot of time talking with the store owner about their history and how they're made. Syo even sometimes fancied the idea of learning how to make fedoras one day as well.
Of course, he never told his father about such thoughts. His father saw the boy's interest in hats and other mature clothing to be very befitting the son of a business man. Actually making such clothes, however, was seen differently. Syo always had a good sense of style, part of which came from his father's suits and various male models he'd seen in magazines. He loved the idea of looking classy yet cool, sophisticated yet young and vibrant. That was what he often went for when he looked for new clothes. He also had his occasional more casual teenage boy clothes, of course, but tended for his nicer jackets more often anyway.
Syo felt his breath being taken away when he entered Degenera Mall for the first time. He had only just moved to this city a few weeks ago, at the start of the new school year. Syo had been too busy on the weekends prior, helping his brothers set up the house. He was also just getting acquainted with his new school and residential area and hadn't had the time until now to visit the mall.
Syo was thrilled for today. He had heard from his new classmates that the mall was really large and had an incredible selection of shops to go to. There were four floors, and the food court was near the center of the main floor where there was the main glass elevator as well.
The first thing Syo passed by when he entered the mall was a good sized arcade with state of the art gaming systems as well as a few older systems in the back for those who appreciated the vintage games. Syo knew he could blow his entire allowance at this arcade if he let himself. His goal was to buy a new fedora today, though. So, before he would lose himself inside an amazing arcade, Syo walked past it and found the map layout for the mall. Syo was glad to see that there were some paper maps he could take with him instead of having to just stand at the board for five minutes. He took one and walked on further into the mall.
As he reached the center of the mall, he found himself entering the food court area. Syo looked around with a smile all the various eateries surrounding the seating in the center. Off to one side, there was a glass elevator. When Syo looked up, he realized that he could see up through a sky light four floors up. There was a large, hexagonal shape, surrounding the seating area in the food court from above that was open up towards the skylight. There were railings up on each floor that one could look over to see the people eating there. In the center of the food court, there was a wishing fountain with a small stream attached that headed down into a little pond at the bottom of the glass elevator.
Syo lifted up the map of the mall he'd picked up and looked through the list of stores under the clothing section. When he found a store that, by the name, he could tell sold hats, Syo decided that's where he'd go first. He looked on the map where it was and noticed that it was just up on the third floor. Syo smiled brightly and folded the map up. He then rolled it a bit and put it into his back pocket as he headed towards the elevator.
Syo had been afraid of heights since he was really young. He'd fallen from a second store window and badly sprained his left wrist then. Because of this, when Syo entered the elevator, he made a point of standing towards the door instead of anywhere near the windows. He got off at the third floor and began heading down the section where that hat store would be located.
An immense smile grew on Syo's face as he stared into the hat store from the outside. There were a number of fancy hats in the window, including a black fedora with a pink, pin striped, decoration. He immediately recalled a pink, pin striped dress shirt he owned and could see now a perfect fancy outfit building inside his head.
That shirt was one his older brother, Raino, had bought him for his sixteenth birthday this past August. He loved that shirt since he first laid eyes on it, but hadn't had a chance to wear it yet. Finding a fedora that would so perfectly match it now seemed like some kind of weird sign to him. Perhaps he would find someone soon that he would start regularly dating. The idea was nice, at least.
Syo happily entered the shop and immediately looked for the shop owner. He asked the shop owner to let him buy that fedora and, although it would cost him almost his entire month's allowance, over one hundred dollars, Syo could not pass up such a perfect fedora. He looked around the shop a bit more, always happy to see some really nice hats. Since he could only afford the one for now, though, he eventually left the shop with a massive smile on his face.
Syo found a bench not far from where he was and walked over to it. He set down his bag and sat next to it after pulling out his professional looking black wallet. He counted the money he had left for the last couple weeks of the month before he'd be given more allowance. There were only about twenty dollars left out of one hundred fourty dollars that he was initially given. Syo let out a quiet sigh as he knew this would only last him maybe a couple times eating out or a few hours at an arcade.
He put his wallet back in his pocket as he stood again, his smile not faltering despite his loss of money. He happily picked up his new hat bag, trying to plan when to wear his new fedora as he continued walking around the mall. He then recalled that his father requested to see Syo, Hatori and Raino tomorrow for lunch. Syo smiled almost triumphantly as he decided that tomorrow was the day he would wear his newly planned outfit.
Since he was done with his active shopping, Syo decided to just casually walk around the mall for a while now. He enjoyed exploring the new place and finding out where potentially interesting stores were located. Those stores, he would definitely return to later with the following month's allowance.
Syo was usually very attentive to crowds so as not to run into people. It was about that time when he was getting hungry, however, that his attention was beginning to get easily distracted. It was now around two in the afternoon. As Syo passed by a watch vendor on the second floor, his eyes turned towards a very nice watch in particular. Due to the momentary distraction, Syo then accidentally bumped into someone else who was walking in the opposite direction.
Syo immediately stepped back and looked at this new person with a surprised face. "Ah! Sorry! Shimatta!" Since Syo was far shorter, his fedora had fallen off and he, immediately after, turned around to pick it back up. He smiled a bit sheepishly but welcomingly at the person he bumped into. "Sorry about that! I got a bit distracted by those watches!" He said with a bright smile, holding his fedora in his left hand while also using that same pointer finger to point across his body to the watch vendor to his right. His new hat bag was in his right hand that he'd lifted behind his head, holding the back of his own head in a sheepish manner.
