Background >>
Hunter is one of the many unfortunate children who raises themselves in the shadows of Veyyard. He is one of the few children who managed to survive in the harsh life that this haven of outlaws provides. He was a bitter and vengeful child with no morals nor mercy. His earliest memory was someone threatened him with a gun, and he punched the muzzle up before the bullet was shot.
He never knew what his real birth name was, so Hunter goes by a lot of names growing up. He lived through rare food donations from St. Lux Eterna, but for his long-term plan, he wants to steal enough money until he can cross the border and leave the country of Veyyard one day.
It took him longer than he expected, with his money being stolen and him having to steal it back. His success may vary day to day. The weeks became months, and the months became years. Too many things happened until he's becoming quite accustomed to the rough lifestyle of Veyyard. Every day is a fight for survival. His goal to collect enough money to pay himself an honest ticket out of the country is slowly being warped. He's so used to the sounds of gunshot and screams in Veyyard, Hunter thought that if he were to leave the country, he would miss the cacophony of chaos. The thought kept him awake one night at 18 years old, and then he up and decided to see if he would change if he got himself out of the country.
Hunter was streetwise enough to figure out how to sneak himself out of the border in-between Veyyard and Sougen, using his shrewd resourcefulness despite his inability to read. Once he got himself out, for the first time in his life, he can see the domain as it is. Vast and open and beautiful.
It was awkward for him at first, not having the people around him on high alert, like he was used to. The peacefulness was strange, and the quiet is deafening. He had no idea the world is larger than how he was used to. There are laws he has to follow here, and lives are celebrated and precious here. After only a few days, Hunter felt like he doesn't belong in this peaceful, quiet, outside world. He realized he has lived in his own violent world for so long, he's only ever good at killing. He cannot survive in a world without killing. This realization settled his heart into choosing to live in Veyyard.
Having firmly made his decision, Hunter heads back to the border between Sougen and Veyyard. This path had led him into meeting a young girl in Sougen, who was doing a funny dance to a scarecrow. She saw him with a gun, puts an apple on her head, and told him to shoot it. Hunter picked up a pebble on the ground and threw it, precisely hitting the apple, while yelling he won't waste his precious bullets for something stupid like that. She said she's a performer, then proceeded to toss the apple in the air, whipped up her performance gun, and shot the apple while it rolls in the air.
The apple's trajectory flied straight to Hunter from her shot, which knocks his hat off. There was a moment of silence. The sight was so unusual for him, he found himself smiling, and eventually laughing despite himself. The girl bowed and said she's actually a performer in training, and her job is supposed to make people be amazed and happy. She pointed out that since Hunter did laugh, she succeeded. The girl introduced herself as Grace.
Grace had single-handedly made Hunter's life just a bit brighter.
She invited him to the inn she's working at, and they began hanging out and traded stories. She attempted to sew his hat that she ruined, and after observing her, Hunter fixed it even better. Grace tore it again by accident. She taught him how to read, and Hunter realized he enjoyed reading even more than her. She dropped all her books to him with an exaggerated eyeroll. Grace slowly changed him completely from being so crabby and angry, to a person who enjoys the little things in life. She showed that it's perfectly okay to be angry at what happened to him but provided him with skills he could use if he wanted to move forward.
Eventually, Hunter's money is depleting after his months of stay in Alamo Inn. They went their separate ways on a good note, promising to see each other again once Grace achieved her dreams to become a famous performer. Hunter agreed, seeing her as a friend he dearly cares about. Now having a completely new mindset, he heads back to Arthera to settle his scores and debts, so he can contact Grace again without people using her to threaten him into anything.
Unfortunately, that's when his luck ran out. He entered the wrong neighborhood and met Faun. Faun manipulated Hunter and threatened him, giving assignments and missions to the lad and rewarded him handsomely if he succeeded. If he were to fail however, Hunter received quite a gruesome punishment and his fear of Faun escalates even more.
He was pulled into joining the bounty hunters of Veyyard eventually, and immediately earned the codename 'Crane' due to his tall and lanky form. He shared the same room with a little kid Faun had picked up called Zero, and Hunter saw a lot of himself in that boy that he immediately sympathizes the kid and helped him whenever he can.
He became a sort of brother-like figure to this child and offered some advice about Veyyard and the likes. Hunter knows how important support is to anyone here who lives in Veyyard, so he provided just that for Zero. Soon, he then befriended Prince, one of the younger bounty hunters his age. Hunter and Prince went on and became almost inseparable best friends.
Hunter only started realizing that Prince isn't a bro he always thought she is when they went to a mission together and an accident happened, involving Prince being shot near her chest. Imagine Hunter's surprise when he went to check on her and found a healthy grabful pair of breasts.
That's when he was trusted to keep it a secret from the whole headquarters. His behavior around Prince never really changed after he knew of this, but he became increasingly curious to watch his best friend in a different light. He attempted to persuade her into wearing feminine clothes once in a while or grow her hair, but his suggestions only ended in his demise.
Years later, the bounty hunter organization made a sharp progress when the title of chief bounty hunter was handed over to Jean. Hunter always liked Jean and his fair judgement, so he's comfortable of the change since it meant no more abuse within the headquarters.
Prince's sudden disappearance internally shocked Hunter, since she is the first friend he ever had, but he never really showed it outwardly. He calmed himself by casually reminding himself that he knows that girl and she will probably return soon enough.
Currently, Hunter is leading his life quite peacefully as a bounty hunter of Veyyard. He has a wide range of connections from people all around the domain due to his approachable attitude, and that made him quite capable for intel work. He's still in contact with Grace, that girl he's still friends with. He's also a sort of guardian to Zero, who's now all grown up. Hunter is still counting the days of Prince's return too, though successful in masking it.
Personality >>
Hunter is one of those tall and lanky guys, who smokes too much and can never stand up straight. He's that kind of guy who gets by on an acceptably handsome face and a disarming smile. Everything Hunter does is indirect. From the way he speaks, to his actions, it's very rare that he shows what he's thinking.
He's also a smooth talker, so it's easier for him to avoid outright lying, and he is generally good-natured enough to avoid suspicion. Maybe because he grew up without a lot of money, he has an old-fashioned way of looking at the universe. Everyday occurrences, like the luxury of eating meat, excite him more than an average person. In other words, he's got a deep appreciation for the simpler things in life.
Outwardly, he's a relatively easy-going guy. He can be a bit of a flirt too, particularly with women he has no chance with. Hunter is also a chronic chain smoker; he will smoke anywhere and at any time. Even if he's bleeding to death and it's raining on him.... especially then.
Hunter is very upfront with things that don't matter to him, but otherwise he's an extremely private person. He's learned that if he throws out that he's a bounty hunter, people don't ask more personal questions.
Despite his tough history, Hunter never lost his sense of humor, and can detach himself from even the most serious situations enough to make light of them. He faced dangerous missions (along with Zero to make it worst) with the same nonchalant attitude and rarely lost his cool.
Hunter enjoyed his freedom and tended to take life as it came. He can be childish; with the almost adolescent daredevil approach he had while chasing bounties. However, he has certain triggers that betray an underlying ruthlessness when he's properly motivated, although it is usually kept hidden.
Honor and loyalty are important to him, but he wouldn't say that made him a good person. If someone told him otherwise, he'd likely shrug and smile and that's as deep as it would reach.
Weapon(s)/ Abilities >>
Hunter uses a very bulky model, KS-23, a rifled-barreled shotgun he salvaged
Hunter has a vast knowledge of weaponry, particularly guns and explosives, thanks to the missions Faun gave him to trade weaponries all over the countries. He is also a seasoned martial artist, due to the very rough style he led since a child, living in Veyyard no less. His style is roughly similar to Jeet Kune Do, he's practically like water if you challenge him in a sparring duel:
On a more personal note, Grace's sewing lessons has nurtured Hunter to be adept at it, simply for the fact that he appreciates fancy-looking clothes, possibly inspired by Prince. The other hunters even went to him when they get their clothes torn or holed up from their missions.
Strengths >>
Hunter's biggest strength probably lies with how amazingly tough he is to withstand pain and pressure, whether physically or emotionally. His strength is rather frightening as well, he can be deadly when facing in close-ranged because his punches and kicks are far more dangerous than his bullets.
Mentally, Hunter's cool is as unshakable as a mountain. He never lost himself in rage or any other strong emotions because he's usually stationed to be the one who's cooling people off.
Weaknesses >>
Hunter had lost quite a bit of his edge after he met Grace. She had softened him down to be the man that he is today. Due to this, his once-burning desire to live every day died down contently and had made his fighting techniques less fatal.
Due to his age, Hunter's gotten slower in his speed and agility, especially since he kept bringing in his freakishly big cannons everywhere. This effects his Jeet Kune Do style to be less dangerous now.
Appearance >>
Hunter is one of those man with a permanent stubble on his face. He has short messy brown hair that he hid under his huge hat that's been tattered by frequent use and old age. The hat has enough holes and cuts that his sharp green eye can be seen from above.
No matter what Hunter is wearing, if it has a collar, he's going to pop it. Trench coat? Pink jacket? Janitor uniform? Everything. It makes him easy to spot if he's wearing a disguise... Grace had pointed this out to him before and offered to sew buttons to his collars so he can button the collars down to the hems. He did it so she would shut up.
This is him when he's younger and bitter:
