Milly slowly sipped her water while Duo began to speak. Noticing his tone had become serious, she lowered her cup to her lap after swallowing and looked at Duo with an equally cold expression. The more Duo spoke, the more Milly's expression slowly formed into that of a narrowed glare. Her eyes bore into his as he finished what he had to say. Milly remained silent and stared for a moment longer before speaking very articulately in a cold and darkened tone.
"Do you honestly think this is just about you or me?" She questioned incredulously, glaring. "He killed innocent people, and I have no doubt that he would continue to kill more if left to his own devices." She emphasized the world 'killed' in attempt to get her own point across as seriously as possible. "It doesn't look like you can really hold him back when put to the test. Last night was a prime example. If you become upset, he will emerge and probably take even more lives. How many lives has he already taken?" Her glare darkened a bit more at that question, not expecting it to be answered because she was almost certain the answer would be something close to 'countless.'
"I'm a soldier, trained and ready to put my life on the line to protect others. I care about the lives of all people, especially those unable to defend themselves. As a soldier, I feel I can't simply allow you to walk away when there's such a danger inside of you. He seems like a time bomb, in a sense, ready go off periodically, with a sensitive trigger, and you can't control him alone." Her expression was unwavering as she glared at him while speaking. She sat straight in her chair in a manner that seemed authoritative and as though she was used to being that way.
"I don't have any intention of dying anytime soon. If I run out of options, I will kill the both of you even though I hope it doesn't come to that." Milly continued to speak seriously, indicating that she really will kill him if they absolutely can't contain Solo. The expression on her face showed that she had no doubt she could do it if need be. "I don't really care how much you like me, in the grand scheme of things. People's lives are endangered if you lose control. Considering my profession, one way or another, my life would be on the line anyway."

Duo has no way of knowing, but his warm eyes looks almost tired. "People's lives still has value to you..." He whispered with a bland smile. "I've lost that sense." With an empty laugh, Duo heaved off a sigh before coughing. The brunette generally cares about people, but he had reached that point where seeing people dying is more normal than interacting with strangers by the roadside. He's unsure whether this is the effect of having Solo residing within him or just his messed up country. He lost count of how many times he woke up with blood on his hands, and having no idea what to do, all he did was run away. He let himself got caught once, so they can hang him or something, but the same thing happened. He woke up, he felt the stickiness on his hands, he ran away. In the end, running away became his only way.
"It hurts to smile too much..." Even as he said that, his smile stays constant. "I'm tired... But I shouldn't stop. I can't. I have to...keep smiling, and be happy, and cheerful, and spirited. ...To keep him away." He looks down at the water Milly gave him. The plastic cup is so thin, he can see the color of his palm through the inside of the cup. "You remember why I was upset, right?" His voice is thin, and his metallic blue eyes drifted to the top right, recalling what happened. His other hand slowly raised up to touch the side of his face, the cheek she slapped. "I tried to stay happy, but sometimes I slipped up." To stay happy, he has to connect with other people, but sometimes that backfires. Horribly.
His expression stays constant throughout his whole confession, as if he's been trained to hold his face like that. "I see that I can't convince you otherwise..." This isn't the first time someone like her showed up. Several noble and strong individuals stood up to his challenge and decided to stay by him, and made the exact same promise that they're willing to kill him if things get out of hand. He's not sure what happens to them, as each time he wakes up, he had to hold himself from thinking whose blood stains his hands this time. With a squint of his eyes, Duo tries to give her his best smile, the best that he can manage at this point. "Then, before either of us die by each others' hands, do you mind if I show you all of me?" So at least, he won't regret that he chose her that night in Cali's. Might as well make the best of every acquaintance. He cannot regret. That's one of the keys to lure Solo out.
He then raised his cup of water towards her, intending to do a sort of cheers. "To survival."

Milly frowned as Duo claimed to have lost the ability to care about people's lives. "You expressed care for my life.", she retorted, "So I don't think that that's entirely true..." She considered how people who have felt trapped and pained for an extended period of time can feel disconnected from the world and others. Duo, in her mind, was such a person. His belief in himself that he lost the ability to value others sounded to her like a reaction to being in pain for a long time.
She considered his words about needing to be happy to keep Solo away. His previous foolish behaviour made more sense with that in mind.
She looked at him pointedly as he asked if she remembered why he was upset. "I didn't know you had a literal time bomb inside of you." She responded, though she did acknowledge her mistake from a point of ignorance before. She looked down at the water cup in her lap and spoke quietly for a moment. "You may just piss the wrong person off someday...." She gave a half-hearted chuckle as she quoted herself from last night. "I didn't expect that I was the one at risk of that."
Milly looked back up at Duo as he spoke again about convincing her to give up. A small crooked smile slanted on her lips. "I've already decided to help you anyway. I won't go back on that."
At the suggestion that one of them would die by the other's hands, a small huff as an excuse of a chuckle escaped her. Her eyes cornered back on Duo's as he asked if he could show her all of him. Slowly, a more genuine smile began to appear on her face. Small, determined, and caring. She nodded. "Yeah," she began, "Let's try to make the most of our time while searching for a solution."
She gave a small chuckle as he raised his cup to cheers and followed suit. Her smile was slightly bigger as she gently tapped his cup with hers. She then pulled her small cup back and finished the water in it in one go. She decided that she would believe they would succeed, even if he didn't.

In contrast to Milly frown, Duo's smile stays unceasing once Milly pointed out that he does care for her life at least. "Don't get me wrong, of course I do care..." There is a genuine glint in his eyes while his tone of voice slipped into a gentle pitch. The knit in his eyebrows expresses his worries more readily than his smile or his voice ever can. "I just... It would be painful if you were to die, so I'm just mentally preparing myself, if that were to happen..."
He really likes Milly. Duo acknowledges that, and there is nothing he could do to convince himself otherwise. Her death would impact him by a lot, but of course Solo knows that already and will take advantage of this affection he's already holding for her. Duo does not want to go over the edge of that pain if Milly were to die in his hands. He absolutely does not wish for Solo to take over him if he falls into a depressive state.
Duo shook his head at Milly's quiet admittance of how she has pissed the wrong person off, fully intending to take the blame instead. "No. I'm responsible to regulate my own emotions, none of this was your fault." Truth be told, it was Duo's own mistake to annoy her to that extent. He got too into it, he genuinely found it funny that he can rhyme her name with the word 'silly'. To him, it was a harmless joke, but he guessed a joke cannot pass as a joke if it hurts someone's feelings. "I'm sorry." He apologizes softly, his eyes darting down as he says so.
At her agreement that he's allowed to show her all of him, Duo's smile beams a bit brighter. He notices her tiny yet determined smile, and he quietly admires that about her, in awe of her resolution. He supposes that's the soldier in her.
Once their paper cups tapped against each other in a sort of cheer, Duo silently watches her as Milly downed the water in one gulp. His eyes held a sort of fondness in them as he watches her with a soft smile on his face, seeming to forget the cup of water in his hand. At the resoluteness she displayed, Duo lets out a genuine chuckle. "I really do like you, Milly." His voice hinted nothing of his usual flirtatious tone, it sounded more like a thing he would say to himself out loud to confirm that it's true.
After that, he drinks his water and it's as if his usual energy has returned. Duo then pats the space at his side repeatedly, "Come, come~ Sit by my side~ Let's trade war stories! The funny ones!" With a sparkle in his eyes, he starts jabbering.
"I'll start! Y'see, I used to be in this squad consists of four other boys. We were pretty chummy!" He immediately began before Milly could get herself comfortable. "Uh. Well. As chummy as a bunch of traumatized kids can get, but!" He waves that little tidbit aside and continues his story with the same degree of excitement he started with. "There's this guy, he's one of us. His name's Trowa, and he's such a boring quiet dude, pensively droll. Y'know one of those types, right? Yeah, so anyway. He has a tendency to run out of ammo, which is BAD because he's supposed to be the sniper! Like, what gives! He's the kind to be able to remain weirdly detached whilst, y'know, murdering people, or possibly contemplating a suicide strike, despite being the most compassionate one out of all of us."
Once Duo starts rambling, he doesn't stop. He keeps on going. "At one point, we had to send him up a comm tower so he can snipe safely. We were climbing up the thing vertically in the middle of the night, and we had a rope tied around each of us so none of us falls off and die." Duo's hands are animatedly gesturing as he talks, seeming to move progressively faster as he's nearing his joke. "We had eggs and beans for dinner just hours earlier, and suddenly, I felt like farting." He couldn't contain his words anymore as he starts to laugh a bit.
"Hehha... and, and then! I told the guys that I'm going to fart, and my boy Wufei is below me, and he starts threatening me he's going to shoot right up my ass if I farted in his face! Snrk!" There's a healthy glow of red on his cheeks now as he recalls the funny incident. "The rest of us starts whispering to each other to shut up and focus, and as we were all arguing, suddenly there's this whistle of fart out of nowhere, and it went on for so long, we were stunned silent!"
At this point, Duo is wincing by his own laughter. He's in pain but he continues his story with a wheeze of mirth. "Everyone kept blaming me and I heard Wufei unlocking his gun, but it really wasn't me! My farts are loud, it never sounds like a whistle! I tried to explain!" He wipes a stray tear from the side of his eye caused by his own laughter. "Then all of a sudden, in the midst of us arguing, we could hear Trowa speak in his deep puberty-laden baritone voice, "It was me. I farted." And that shuts all of us up for like 5 seconds, before Heero, our squad leader, starts laughing. But like in the middle of laughing, he farts too! And it was in this sequential kind of noise, where he only farts with each laugh, at each single 'ha' of laughter! It was so funny!"
Recalling the event clearly in his mind's eye, Duo starts laughing heartily, now completely ignoring the pain his body is going through. "The rest of us then began laughing and farting in true brotherhood fashion. Man, I miss those boys." There's a wispy look on his face, but it looked more like he's recalling a core memory he had with his childhood friends. "What about you, Milly? Who's your best friend back in the army?" He looked up at her in excitement, as if they're both in the middle of a fun slumber party.
